Honesty is the best policy and cheaters never win are among the best known sayings of all times, but are they true? Reality shows that societys deep respect for these principles is betrayed by the fact that, all too often, it is the liars and cheaters we reward. The good honest person doesnt always win. Honesty is a trait that is very rare in this day and time. It is not uncommon to hear about individuals who are busted for lying, cheating or stealing. So where have all the good honest true people gone.

Well we just dont hear about the good someone does verses those who live their life by being dishonest and unfaithful. Before we started discussing honesty I just thought it related to personal relationships. I didnt at first think about how much it relates to your professional life, and how a person is judged by their personal characteristics at work. Honesty is an important factor that make a loyal and trustworthy employee. Every employer looks for that staff member who they can trust to get the job done and do it with integrity. So often we hear about people who lose their job over ridiculous choices.

For example, always being consistently late, or misusing sick leave. These examples may seem petty but in the long run it adds up. Webster dictionary gives a very clear simple definition of the word. Honesty refers to a person of moral character and connotes positive and virtuous attributes such as truthfulness and straightforwardness along with the absence of lying, cheating or theft. Honesty means being trustworthy. Honesty also means straight forward conduct. So basically honesty is a person who doesnt lie, cheat, or steal. They are loyal and true to themselves and others.

Is honesty something that everyone is born with? Well our characteristics start to form at childhood. It is important to consider developmental and environmental factors when studying honesty. Children are born into a social and cultural setting that affects how they learn to think and behave. They also are influenced by friends, peers, relatives, and the media. How individuals will respond to all these influences tends to be unpredictable. Depending on how we are raised and disciplined as children forms our personality traits as adults.

If a child grows up thinking it is ok to tell a little white lie every now and then; they will most likely tell lies. Can a person be honest at all times no matter the cost or punishment? Well it seems like an impossible task. We live in a world where it is best to plan on being lied to, or done wrong. What if everybody started to look at honesty a little differently it would be a different world. The movie Liar Liar with Jim Carey where his son made a birthday wish that his dad could not tell a lie is a great example.

Could you imagine going one day where you were not able to tell the smallest of lies? We get into such a routine and go through the motions of greeting people in our everyday lives. If we just blurted out what we were thinking, we would be in so much trouble. Because telling someone the truth sometimes is hurtful, and that is why people get caught in the middle. A lot of the time we just dont want to say something hurtful, and it is easier to tell a lie. It is said, honesty is the best policy. Because if we are honest, people will believe us.

They will give value to our words and dealings. An honest shop-keeper will fetch more customers than a dishonest shop-keeper. An honest man is respected by all. They have a good position in the society. The honest men fare in all walks of life. So, it is said that honesty is the best policy. ? Honesty has certain limitations. It is hard to deal with dishonest people. But one should be honest as far as possible in todays society. Honesty is a virtue. If all people become honest, then our society will be an ideal society. People should try to become honest in their day-to-day life.

Because children learn from us, and we set the example for them It is our duty to pass on good traits to our future generations. We should be building honest, productive citizens who will step up in our places. They need to know that a lie is a lie, no matter how small, and that it is always better to tell the truth. Being honest is being open, trustworthy and truthful. When people are honest, they can be relied on not to lie, cheat, or steal. It is admitting mistakes even when you know someone might be angry or disappointed. You should always tell the truth, even when it seems as if it would be useful to tell a lie.
