Analyze multiple sources of data to diagnosis the nature of healthcare problems to implement and evaluate the appropriate treatment including prescribing medications, therapeutic measures, medical devices, and controlled substances within the scope of registered nurse practitioner. Consult with or refer clients to other health care providers when appropriate (Statues of the, 2012). Being able to consult with other health care providers and expand my knowledge and expertise as a registered nurse to become a registered nurse practitioner to help clients manage his/her disease process is my number one goal. Working in the hospital as a registered nurse I see many patients come to the hospital not knowing anything about his/her history, or even what medications he/she takes. When I ask patients when the last time he/she saw a doctor the usually response is every time he/she tries to schedule a doctor appointment the doctor is completely booked and he/she can never get in, or when the doctor can see me he is so busy that I would rather come to the hospital to be seen by the doctors here.
These situations infuriate me because if the patient was better educated about his/her history, what medications they are taking including side effects, and how to schedule routine medical appointments the patient may not ever half to visit an emergency room except in extreme emergencies. My goal as a register nurse practitioner is to advance my nursing knowledge and expertise to educate clients, and family, in the community, to manage his/her disease process to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is how clients will have a better life with family and friends.
Over the last decade being able to maintain a healthy life style for clients has steadily declined in underserved areas, due to a shortage of primary care physicians, and causing a paramount need for advance family nurse practitioners. This essay defined advance practice nursing in Arizona, described the role of the Advance Practice Nurse, Family Nurse Practitioner, and described my ultimate career goal of managing my own practice to help educate clients as it pertains to the scope of practice of a nurse practitioner to manage his/her disease process to have a healthier lifestyle with family and friends.
